Lake Eufaula Fishing Report – April 2023

Eufaula: Level: 0.4 feet below 188. Temp: 59-64 degrees. Clarity: Stained.

Bass: Capt. Sam Williams reports, “The weather promises to stabilize as we begin the month or April. A steady water level will allow the fish to settle into their normal spring patterns. The bedding bass will be in the shallows making the shallow bite exciting. It will take some patience to finesse a bite when the lady gets a stubborn streak. The frog bite and blade bait worked over the shallow cover will get very active. Remember to feel the tug on the frog before you set the hook, or you will take it away from them. Texas-rigged soft baits are a great choice for the shallow bite. Good colors are black with a chartreuse tail, watermelon candy and green pumpkin. The deeper bass will be hitting crankbaits in Tennessee shad and gray-ghost colors. If they do not have a black dot behind the eye, use a magic marker and put one on. This will make it resemble a threadfin shad. Carolina rigs worked through the deeper cover with the same colors mentioned above will get some attention.”

Multiple Species: Capt. Sam Williams reports, “Crappie are still scattered. They should begin to school on the natural and man-made cover as the conditions stabilize. Jigs tipped with a minnow will get a few for the supper table. Bluegill will be on the banks eating crickets and worms. Watch for the wading birds eating along the shoreline. Catfish are always eating cutbait on jugs. For the bottom fishermen, crawlers are good, but cutbait is a good bet, as well. If you can find mullet, they are not native here, and the different smell can draw the attention of stubborn cats. Enjoy these beautiful spring days on Lake Eufaula. Make those precious memories in God’s great outdoors. Your youngsters will talk about these memories for generations. Pray for one another and all our folks in uniform.”
