Lake Eufaula Fishing Report – April 2021

GON Staff | April 1, 2021

Eufaula: Level: 0.5 feet below 190 full pool. Temp: Low to mid 60s. Clarity: Moderate to heavy stain.

Bass: Guide Sam Williams reports, “The bass are finally trying to move to the bedding areas. The fish have been trying to transition to shallow water to spawn for a while now but do not find a consistent water temperature to complete the process. We are catching bass that are full of eggs, so it will happen soon. The bass we are catching are hitting reaction lures—the noisier the better. ChatterBaits have been good, and spinnerbaits and buzzbaits are also great choices. Soft plastics rigged on Texas rigs and shaky heads worked very slowly are getting a few hits. Now that the water temperature is staying more steady, we will be able to set patterns on their movement. We have come to realize here in the South that we can not depend on any sort of consistent weather patterns before Easter. The other good sign we are near spring weather is to watch for the ospreys to begin building their nests.”

Crappie: Sam Williams reports, “The crappie are off and on. A week ago, they were doing well on jigs and minnows, and this week they have scattered again. The schools we are seeing on the electronics are big, and it looks like it will be a fantastic season for them when all settles down.”
