Lake Eufaula Fishing Report April 2012

GON Staff | March 28, 2012

Eufaula: Level: 1.1 feet below full pool. Temp: 67 to 71 degrees. Clarity: Stained.

Bass: Slow. Guide Sam Williams said it was tough. He said the water level had been falling over the past week which was messing with the fish that were moving up to spawn. Sam said the fish were in all stages, but that the big waves of spawners had not yet done their thing. The best best bite going, said Sam, is on main-river blowdowns that have some grass and cover. Fish a Chatterbait, spinnerbait or slow down with soft plastics. There should also be some fish out on the first shallow ledges in 6 to 10 feet of water, and they can be caught on crankbaits. Look for them staging halfway back to the backs of the creeks on channel swings, and pay attention to any shad in the area. In the morning look for a frog bite in the grass, or rip a Rat-L-Trap through it. If they water stabilizes, the bite should get good, said Sam.

Crappie: Good. Sam said the crappie aren’t quite ready to get on the banks yet, but people are catching a lot of fish trolling the tops of the first drops with jigs or sitting over some type of structure or cover on those drops with minnows.

Catfish: Good. The catfish are biting, and it should keep getting better up through the spawn, said Sam.
