Lake Blue Ridge Fishing Report – May 2009

GON Staff | April 28, 2009

Blue Ridge: Level: 2.8 feet below full pool. Temp: High 60s. Clarity: Clear.

Largemouth:
Fair. It’s late, but there are still fish on the bed, said Nathan Stuart. You can catch them in the backs of the pockets sight fishing with something like a green-pumpkin jig. There are also some postspawn fish hanging out shallow in the pockets, and they should be there through May. Catch them swimming a lizard or working a fluke. There’s also a buzzbait bite early and late.

Smallmouth:
Poor. The postspawn bite should get started pretty soon. At that time, Nathan said you can get on the trolling motor anywhere on the lake and start catching them all over the place. He said to look for creek-channel drops, rocks, brush or anything else they can relate to. Fish a weightless, glimmer-blue fluke, and use a twitch-and-pause retrieve.
