Lake Blue Ridge Fishing Report June 2018

GON Staff | May 31, 2018

Blue Ridge: Level: 1.5 feet above full pool. Temp: 74-76 degrees. Clarity: Clear.

Bass: Guide Eric Welch reports, “The lake is above full pool but is fishing great. I’ve been starting my mornings out throwing topwater around long points, flats and around the mouths of pockets on the main body of the lake. The lures I’ve been using are a Whopper Plopper, Strike King Sexy Dawg and a Pop-R. The Blue Ridge bass have spawned out and are feeding pretty good early in the mornings. Once the sun gets up good, I start targeting bank lines and around docks with a 3.5-inch tube bait and a drop shot with a 4.5-inch Roboworm in morning-dawn color. The bass have been holding around 12 to 20 feet deep and should stay in this depth for the next couple weeks before moving out to their summer depths and areas. When the fish move out to their summer pattern, start looking for rocky humps, deep rocky banks and any laydowns. You can target these fish with a drop shot, shaky head and a 3.5-inch tube. If you have a windy day, try a 3/8-oz. spinnerbait around any brush or laydowns. It’s really starting to get the time of season when your electronics start playing a big factor in how many fish you will catch. If you’re seeing them on your depthfinder, then you should be able to catch some of them with a drop shot. Night fishing should start getting good after this holiday weekend. Lures of choice are a Norman DD22, a 3.5-inch tube, a 3/8-oz. jig and a Texas-rigged worm. Good luck.”
