Lake Blue Ridge Fishing Report – July 2019

GON Staff | June 25, 2019

Blue Ridge: Level: Full Pool. Temp: 79-81 degrees. Clarity: Clear.

Bass: Guide Eric Welch reports, “There has been some topwater action happening first thing in the morning around flats, humps and pockets off the main lake. If we have a clear night, the blueback herring will feed, and the bass will have them pushed into these areas. Watch for them to make their move out in the mornings. My baits of choice are a Strike King Sexy Dawg, a Whopper Plopper and a Cane Walker. Make sure to keep one of these baits on the deck all day in case you see some fish breaking. After the sun gets up, I start targeting docks and deep, main-lake points and bluff walls. The baits I’m using are a drop shot with a 4.5-inch Roboworm, a tube bait, a shaky head and a Ned Rig with a Z-Man TRD green-pumpkin worm. I’ll work this pattern until about 11 a.m. or noon, and then I will work my way up the river fishing the deep bluff banks fishing the same type lures. At nighttime, I’m going to fish a small, 3/8-oz. jig in green pumpkin, a tube bait and a deep-diving crankbait. Good luck.”
