Lake Blue Ridge Fishing Report – July 2010
GON Staff | June 30, 2010
Blue Ridge: Level: Full pool. Temp: 82-86 degrees. Clarity: Clear.
Bass: Eric Crowley reports, “The topwater bite is on in the early hours. Smallmouths are schooling on the main lake and crashing schools of bait. You can see them busting on the points from about an hour before sunrise until about and hour after. You can toss a Zara Spook, either a standard model or the Spook Jr. Also throw a Smack Tackle Gizz-3 or 4 shallow diver to these fish and just twitch it. Fish from 2 to 5 pounds have been caught in the last couple weeks. Start with the main points. Morganton, Point 2 and the area by the dam have had schooling smallmouths. If the fish stop busting and go down, try throwing a Sebile in a custom blueback color or a Gizz-3 deep runner in green pearl. Look for the bite to be best when there is a light fog or a good overcast. This will extend the bite well into the morning hours.”
