Lake Blue Ridge Fishing Report – January 2020

GON Staff | December 31, 2019

Blue Ridge: Level: 10.5 feet low. Temp: 54-56 degrees. Clarity: Clear.

Bass: Guide Eric Welch reports, “I’m still throwing 3.5-inch tube baits, a Z-Man TRD and drop-shotting a 4.5-inch Roboworm in red crawler. This is the time of year to throw jerkbaits. I’ve been throwing a Strike King KVD Series 200 in the clearwater-minnow color. Work rocky banks and points with 6-lb. test throwing a Strike King Lucky Shad in chartreuse perch and sexy shad colors. As the water continues to drop, these fish are feeding up for the winter, and there nothing out there that looks more like a ball of bait than the A-rig. I’m also going to throw a shaky head with a Strike King 6.5-inch finesse worm and a 3/8-oz. pb&j jig. All these baits will work up the river on the steep, rocky banks. The Float-n-Fly has been working on deep, rocky banks. Smallmouth and spotted bass love it in the winter.”
