Lake Blue Ridge Fishing Report February 2014

GON Staff | January 30, 2014

Blue Ridge: Level: 16.6 feet below full pool. Temp: 41-43 degrees. Clarity: Clear.

Bass: Slow. Guide Eric Welch reports, “It’s been tough out on the water with all the crazy weather we’ve been having. Part of the river has frozen along with a lot of the pockets up the river. There has also been a pretty good shad kill with the water getting so cold, and that should make for some good spring fishing. What fish we’ve been catching have been on a Float-n-Fly and a shaky head. If the weather stabilizes this month, I would start paralleling the banks with a No. 5 Rapala Shad Rap in a bream or perch pattern. If I was finding any fish on my electronics, I would try dropping a Flex-it spoon on them. The Float-n-Fly should still work this month. I like throwing a duck feather or a pink/white. Also, when the sun gets up, I like throwing a tube and a jig around rocks and shallow flats.”
