Lake Blue Ridge Fishing Report April 2018

GON Staff | March 28, 2018

Blue Ridge: Level: 3 feet low. Temp: 48-52 degrees. Clarity: Clear.

Bass: Guide Eric Welch reports, “We’ve been having some of the craziest weather I’ve ever seen. The lakes are coming up, and the water temps have been going down due to the cold nights and windy days. This upcoming month we should see a change in weather, and maybe it will start staying normal for the spawn. The fish are wanting to move up and look for areas to spawn. For spotted bass and smallmouth, I’m targeting long, rocky points and flats on the main body. Fish areas around Blue Ridge Marina, Star Creek and the Morganton Point swimming area and campground. The baits I’m using are a 3.5 Strike King coffee tube, a 3/8-oz. jig in pb&j and green pumpkin, a Strike King 2.75 Rage Swimmer swimbait on a 1/8-oz. head, a Strike King 1.5 square bill in Delta red and an A-rig. If you’re looking to target largemouth, try small pockets off the main body, along with the backs of pockets that have docks that have quick access to deeper water. Their has also been largemouth hanging around brush and laydowns. I’m targeting these fish with an A-rig, a Strike King 3.75 Rage Swimmer swimbait, a Strike King 1.5 square bill and a shaky head. These baits will also work in all the pockets heading up the river.”
