Clarks Hill Lake Fishing Report – May 2022
GON Staff | April 28, 2022
Clarks Hill: Level: 0.2 feet above 330. Temp: 69 degrees. Clarity: Some stain from rains.
Bass: Guide Trad Whaley reports, “The water level was as high as 5 feet over full pool, and in less than seven days it’s back to full pool. It’s dirty in the rivers, and this has caused a later-than-usual spawn, which has made it a little crazy. Plan on seeing some bedding fish and a decent herring bite that will last later this year. The shallow bite should pick up if the water level stays consistent. The fish that did spawn early will be in the brush soon. The lake should be wide open for most styles of fishing this May. So go out and do what you have confidence in. Remember, new anglers are the future of our sport, so take ’em when you can.”

Linesides: Capt. Eddie Mason reports, “April has been pretty tough out here because of the storms. We’ve also had to stay off the lake quite a few days because the winds were so high. I’m still staying pretty much here on the lower end of the lake around Modoc and the dam. I’m getting some good fish on the long, running points and humps in the main river channels. I’m starting out in water that’s about 20 feet deep and going deeper as the day warms up. I’ve been using mostly downrods, but I have used planer boards some. Throwing live bait on the bottom with downrods has given me some good results. Don’t forget that early morning can make a difference between getting a good box of fish or a light box of fish. After all the bad weather we started April with, it’s been clearing up, the water is back down to full pool, and hopefully the fishing will keep getting better.”
