Clarks Hill Lake Fishing Report – March 2022

GON Staff | February 24, 2022

Clarks Hill: Level: 0.4 feet below 330. Temp: Low 50s. Clarity: Clear on the lower end but it’s been a little cloudy from Lloyds Creek up.

Bass: Guide Trad Whaley reports: “Clarks Hill is getting right and so are the fish. It seems like everything is on schedule for a normal spawn. In March, start looking on the flats closest to deep water and on secondary points at the mouth of spawning bays. I hate it but a Carolina rig with a Berkley lizard is hard to beat for big females. A swimbait will catch some big ones. Also look for spots to start spawning 8 to 18 feet deep on points. Fish jigs and shaky heads.”

Linesides: Capt. Eddie Mason reports, “I’ve done a little fishing mid-lake but for the most part I’m staying on the lower end of the lake. I’ve been using my downrods and luckily I’ve been able to get some good live bait. I’ve been in the main river channels. In the clear water, we’re going to the bottom in about 50 feet of water, coming up about three turns and keeping them close to the bottom. In the stained water, I’m  staying in water that’s about 30 feet deep.”

Guide Bradd Sasser reports, “The hybrids and stripers are beginning to move out toward the mouths of the creeks and onto some main-lake points. A lot of hybrid activity has been from 35 to 50 feet of water with the groups of fish moving around quite a bit. Downlines have produced some very nice catches of hybrids and stripers with some spotted bass mixed in. The egg sacks in the fish are filling out so with some warmer temperatures, we should see the fish moving shallow sooner rather than later. When this begins to happen, they start feeding very aggressively. A lot of the fish have begun to migrate back toward the mid and lower end of the lake.”
