Clarks Hill Lake Fishing Report – June 2022
GON Staff | May 26, 2022
Clarks Hill: Level: 0.2 feet below 330. Temp: 75 degrees. Clarity: Clear in most areas.
Bass; Tournament angler Josh Rockefeller reports, “The lake is full and the fish are biting good. The water temp’s right around 80. I’ve been finding bass feeding on shad in the river arms. At first light I will work rocky points and step rocky banks with a Super Spook Boyo topwater walking bait in bone color. This bite goes on for about two hours and even longer on a cloudy morning. Once the sun is fully out I transition to short pockets right off the main creek channels and main lake. I’m looking for bream beds to throw a bream-colored prop bait to. This is where I will spend the majority of my day. I will switch it up between the prop bait and a buzzbait. I am mostly targeting the bream beds with the prop bait, once I physically see them or I have a fish blow up on the buzzbait. There is always a herring bite going on down the lake. Mainly around the dam, look for points on the main lake with rock and clay mix. I throw a chrome Gunfish to bass breaking the surface chasing herring.”
Linesides: Capt. Eddie Mason reports, “I’m fishing on the lower end of the lake on long, running points, humps and blow-throughs on the main river channels. With summer setting in, we’re going out earlier and earlier. I’m starting out in about 30 feet of water and throwing out live bait on the bottom with my downrods. As the day warms, I’m getting into deeper water but not going to the bottom. I’m using freelines and planer boards a little, but it’s mostly downrods.”
Guide Bradd Sasser, of Williams Sasser Fishing Charters, reports, “The hybrids and stripers have been pushing up shallow and feeding aggressively on herring at daybreak in 10 to 15 feet of water off of points. With the water warming up, they are beginning to move deeper into the 20- to 25-foot range. Once the temperatures break into the 80s consistently, they will begin to stack up in 30 to 35 feet of water off the sides of humps. Downlining live herring is by far the most productive method right now and will continue to be for the majority of the summer. The best bites are coming within the first couple of hours of sunrise and the same thing at sunset.”
