Clarks Hill Fishing Report – August 2022
GON Staff | July 28, 2022
Clarks Hill: Level: 1 foot below 330. Temp: Mid to upper 80s. Clarity: Clear mid-lake down, stained in the rivers.
Bass: Tournament angler Trad Whaley reports, “Summer has us in a stranglehold. If you can dodge the storms, night fishing is a great option to stay cool and catch some of the better fish. Also, no worries of the lake traffic. I like to start right before dark on my best stuff. They seem to always bite great then. I like to start with a dark-colored spinnerbait in clearer water concentrating on lights, flats near deeper water and main-lake points with brush. Rock is always a great choice. My next baits are always a 10-inch Berkley Power Worm in a darker color on a Texas rig or a shaky head on a Berkley General. I always put in near where I’m fishing and don’t run around a lot. Be careful and make sure you have a spotlight, and fish the areas you know well. If you can stand the heat, there is a good brushpile bite down the lake on main-lake points 15 to 25 feet deep. There is an early bite around main-lake points on top. Confidence is key. Our youth is our sport’s future, so take one fishing when you can.”

Linesides: Guide Bradd Sasser, of William Sasser Fishing Charters, reports, “The hybrids and stripers are feeding aggressively right around daybreak where they are chasing bait up into 25 to 30 feet of water off the sides of points and humps. The lower end of the lake has been extremely productive. After the initial morning feeding frenzy, they are moving into nearby ditches with some fish suspended 25 to 30 feet deep in 50 to 60 feet of water and some hanging closer to the bottom. Downlines with live herring are hands down the best method this time of year. In the upcoming weeks these patterns will hold true, but the fish will begin to migrate away from the lower end of the lake.”
