Bartletts Ferry Fishing Report May 2010

GON Staff | April 27, 2010

Bartletts Ferry: Level: 0.2 feet above full pool. Temp: Upper 60s to low 70s. Clarity: Light stain.

Bass: Fair. Dennis Hudson said the fish finally moved up to spawn and moved back out in record time over the last couple of weeks. “I’m sure there are some in all stages right now — there are always late bloomers and early bloomers,” he said, “but my opinion is most of the fish are through.” From now through May, the fishing should hit a lull. It’s also been tough to nail down a pattern because the lake level has been fluctuating wildly. Dennis said he’ll be fishing Texas rigs, shaky heads and Trick Worms around the docks. With the buck bass guarding fry, Dennis said you can beat the banks in the spawning pockets and catch a bunch of small fish right now. A Pop-R is a good tool for this, and there should continue to be a good morning and evening topwater bite. The grass has not greened up yet, but that bite should be right around the corner. If the water is up enough to flood the grass, pull a Texas-rigged lizard or curly tail worm through the grass and drop it off the edge of the grass line. Green pumpkin, junebug and Bama bug are good colors.
