Bartletts Ferry Fishing Report – March 2010

GON Staff | February 23, 2010

Bartletts Ferry: Level: 1.7 feet below full pool. Temp: 44 to 46 degrees. Clarity: Stained.

Bass:
Tough. Dennis Hudson has won three out of the past four Saturday tournaments on shallow largemouths, but he said there’s not much size to them. “The bite in Halawaka is dead,” Dennis said. He suggested anglers look shallow in the backs of the creeks on laydowns and undercut banks. A jig has been getting the most bites. A Buckeye Mop Jig or a Rattlin’ Booza Bug are Dennis’ first choices, and black/blue has been the best color. There has also been a “one-here, one-there, nothing-special” bite on crankbaits. A Rebel Wee-R or a Lucky Craft RC15 in red, chartreuse or splatterback colors can be decent search baits. As temperatures rise in March, Dennis expects the fish to turn on with a prespawn bite. The fish should move up into the pockets and hold on seawalls and docks. When this happens, it’ll be time to break out the spinnerbaits and crankbaits on the seawalls. On the docks, try skipping a Trick Worm or a Senko to the back posts or fish a Texas rig on the outside posts. Dennis likes junebug or black/red flake in stained water and green pumpkin when the water is clear.
