Bartletts Ferry Fishing Report – June 2010

GON Staff | May 26, 2010

Bartletts Ferry: Level: 0.7 feet above full pool. Temp: 74 to 79 degrees. Clarity: Clear on the main river; good stain in some of the creeks.

Bass: Decent. Dennis Hudson said the fish are starting to transition into their summer patterns, and he’s been able to catch a bunch of fish lately. They’ve all been small, though. The best pattern he’s found recently is to fish a green-pumpkin finesse worm on a shaky head around boat docks, brush and small rocky points near the main river channel. As we move on into June, the summer patterns should really start to set up, and then an early and late topwater bite should turn on, especially around the bream beds, Dennis said. The deeper brushpile bite should also get good. Dennis said to locate brush in 8 to 15 feet of water. Look for the brushpiles out in front of boat docks. Catch fish on them by fishing either a shaky-head finesse worm or a Texas rig. The grass bite has not been great this year, mainly because the grass is sparse, Dennis said. Wild fluctuations in water depth have kept the grass high and dry many times Dennis has been on the water. However, when there is water on the grass, there are usually fish in it. Try buzzing a topwater frog or a buzzbait through the grass, or fish a jig or Texas-rigged worm or creature bait in and around the grass to get bit.
