Bartletts Ferry Fishing Report – April 2024

GON Staff | March 26, 2024

Bartletts Ferry: Level: 0.4 feet below 521. Temp: Low to mid 70s. Clarity: The river and Halawakee Creek are stained to muddy. The lower lake and some coves are clear.

Bass: Tournament angler Tyler Morgan with Summerlin Outdoors reports that Tyler and Adam Byrd won the first Tuesday night, three-hour tournament on March 19 with five bass weighing 22 pounds. Those fish were prespawn, moving in to get ready to bed. April is all about the spawn, both bass and shad. Tyler will fish seawalls and grassbeds where the shad will spawn the first hour each morning. He will cast an Accent Fishing Products Jacob Wheeler buzzbait with a white Zoom Horny Toad trailer. Fish fast and cover water until you find shad spawning and bass eating them. When the sun hits the water, the bass will stay in the same areas. Big females will often feed on shad early and then look for a bed later. Go back into the coves and cuts behind seawalls and main-lake grass where the shad spawn and cast a wacky rig and a weightless stickbait around rocks, wood and docks. Always watch for bass on the bed in April. When he sees one, Tyler pitches a Texas-rigged Big Bite Baits Fighting Frog into the bed to get a bite. The thin shape of that bait means better hook-ups. The river around Idlehour ramp and Halawakee Creek are Tyler’s main areas to fish in April.
