Last month we asked some true/false questions on our 2015-2016 Hunting Seasons and Regulations. Let’s see how you did.

1. Starting in 2016, turkey hunters are required to carry a harvest log and report their harvest.  True. 

2. Deer season ends on different dates for the Northern Zone and the Southern Zone. False. There is only a Northern Zone and Southern Zone when referring to the law hunting over feed/bait for deer. The statewide deer season ends on Jan. 10, 2016 for firearms. Clayton, Cobb, DeKalb, Forsyth, Fulton, Gwinnett and Rockdale counties stay open for archery only through Jan. 31, 2016

3. It is illegal to harvest bears in DeKalb and Fulton counties. False. The Northern Zone for bear now consists of Barrow, Carroll, DeKalb, Fulton, Gwinnett, Hart, Jackson, Madison, Walton and all counties north.

4. In the Northern Zone, the bear season dates are different from deer season. False.

5. Shotguns for hunting deer, bear or feral hog are restricted to a maximum shell capacity of five. False. Shotguns for hunting deer, bear or feral hog are no longer restricted to a maximum shell capacity of five.

6. Resident deer hunters under the age of 16 are required to have hunting and big game licenses. False. Resident deer hunters 16 and older are required to have hunting and big game license. Anyone born after 1/1/1961 must successfully complete a hunter education course prior to purchasing a hunting license.

7. For deer, scopes are legal on muzzleloading firearms. True, and scopes are also legal on muzzleloading firearms for turkey and bear.

8. When deer hunting with a muzzleloader or rifle, hunters must wear at least 250 square inches of visible hunter orange above the waist. False. The hunter must have 500 square inches of visible orange above the waist when hunting during firearms or primitive weapons seasons.

9. You are deer hunting on private property, but it is illegal to use a suppressor on your rifle even with landowner permission. False. Lawfully possessed suppressors may be used for hunting on private property. Permission from the landowner is required.

10. You’ve just shot a doe, but it is too dark to look for it. Because it’s only a doe, it’s legal to make no effort to retrieve it. False. Killing or crippling of game without reasonable efforts to retrieve is an unlawful activity.
