Lake Seminole Fishing Report – April 2023
GON Staff | March 28, 2023
Seminole: Level: 0.7 feet below 77.5. Temp: 62-68 degrees; 72 degrees at the springs on the lake. Clarity: Clear to slightly stained.
Bass: Guide Aaron Crews reports, “The full moon is April 6, and the new moon is April 19. The shad are spawning earlier this year. This makes baits that resembles shad a sure bet. Spinnerbaits are king in my book. The new spinnerbait called a Catalyst by Nichols Lures should perform well. Fish these topwater baits: Rico in absolute, Splash-it in clown, Torpedo in blue chrome, Heddon Chugger in clear, Zara Spook in bone or clear with rattles, Smithwick Devil’s Horse in Tennessee shad or black chrome. As for buzzbaits, I go with white, double-bladed Hollingsworth or a black single blade on cloudy days. My favorite worms for bass this time of year are Zoom Ol’ Monster black/blue/bruizer Texas rigged and a Zoom Speed Worm in smokin purple. I also fish a Senko with a 1/32-oz. weight Texas rigged. I will start flipping a jig in late April. There are bass still bedding on the main lake, but you will not win a tournament with bedding fish alone. You’ll need a back-up pattern, such as the shad spawn or bass feeding on panfish beds.”

Multiple Species: Guide Aaron Crews reports, “Fly fishermen should do well on bream three days before and after the full and new moons. You should take fish on mayflies. As for live baits, use crickets and red wigglers. Catfishermen are doing well on bush hooks and trotlines using cutbaits, worms or gizzards. Jackfish are being taken on spoons, spinnerbaits and small topwater baits. Crappie are on minnows in 8 to 12 feet of water along grass edges. Beetle Spins will take crappie and panfish this time of year. Remember to celebrate Easter with your families. Christ has risen from the grave to atone for our sins.”
