Lake Sinclair Fishing Report – December 2022

Sinclair: Level: 1.7 feet below 340 Temp: Low 50s. Clarity: Stained water up Little River near Cedar Creek, up around Shoulder Bone, and in the back of Rooty Creek.

Bass: Tournament angler Karl Pingry reports, “According to Ed at Lakeside Chevron. The hot baits working right now are a chrome and blue or crawfish-colored Rat-L-Traps in the backs of the pockets and over the grass. Paralleling the grasslines is also working, as well as a ChatterBait. On certain days, a black buzzbait is producing either early (or later in the afternoon if the sun has been on the water all day). A Bandit crankbait or the No. 7 Shad Rap (rattling version) continues to work on the rock and rip-rap banks. If you fish the stained water, Ed says the painted turtle back blade spinnerbait is starting to produce quality bass. Lastly, don’t give up on Ole Monster worms with a 1/4-oz. weight around the docks and blowdowns, and now add a jig ’n pig to the mix. For the end of November and early December, expect these patterns to continue. The one pattern that will end soon is the buzzbait bite. In a former GON Sinclair article, it was pointed out that the buzzbait bite would work on warm afternoons until the water temps drop below 48. That may be coming soon. Expect fishing the grasslines to continue. Rattletraps (my favorite the Red Eyed shad with yo-yo type retrieves), spinnerbaits, ChatterBaits and crankbaits will be good baits to try. In clear water, add jerkbaits and swimbaits to the arsenal of lures to try on the same grasslines. Crankbaits, jigs, and shaky heads will be baits to use in rocky areas, as well as a Carolina rig. Stay with shaky heads, Texas-rigged worms and jigs in the brushpiles (on and offshore). Jigs and monster worms in blowdowns and docks will continue to work, as well as smaller worms on shaky heads (as water temps fall below 50).
