Lake Sinclair Fishing Report – October 2022

Sinclair: Level: 1.5 feet below 340. Temp: 75-80 degrees. Clarity: Clear as it gets on Sinclair with a possible light stain up the river.

Bass: Tournament angler Karl Pingry reports, “Bass fishing is still hot, according to Ed at Lakeside Chevron. It’s taking 19 to 21 pounds for a winning weight these days. The shad have moved all the way to the backs of the coves. In the mornings, fish a black popping frog or a ChatterBait parallel to the shore and grasslines. Ed says the spinnerbait bite has just started and should get better as the water cools. A little stain in the pockets or up the rivers will help with the spinnerbait bite, as well. The crankbait bite has also picked up. A Bandit 200 with a black back and silver sides or a chartreuse back and pearl sides is working, along with a Little Earl or No. 7 Shad Rap (suspending version) with a chartreuse back and silver sides or just a natural pattern. Last but not least, a lizard in black emerald or junebug red or a shaky-head worm in green pumpkin green around the docks, blowdowns or grass edges are the plastics of choice. Ed commented that the hydrilla is really thick up the Oconee River and in front of Rooty Creek, and there are quite a few bass being caught in those areas. For October, keep in mind that due to water flow from GP, there won’t be any ‘lake turnover’ that you get on other impoundments. Ed expects the grass edges and backs of the pockets to continue to produce. He mentioned that the spinnerbait bite will get hot, along with a 3/8-oz. buzzbait. Swimbaits and ChatterBaits along the hydrilla edges and near the bank will continue to produce. Suspending jerkbaits will start to work later in the month, too. Light-weighted plastics and Trick Worms should also come into the mix. Don’t be surprised if the fish are right up on the bank as the water cools into the low 70s and 60s. Keep your eye out for the shad and where they are located in the pockets.
