Bartletts Ferry Fishing Report – August 2021

Bartletts Ferry: Level: 0.7 feet below full pool. Temp: Mid 80s. Clarity: Clear to lightly stained.

Bass: Mostly slow. The grass bite that can be a summer staple seems to have petered out. You can still catch a few small fish off the edges of the grass with a green-pumpkin Texas rig or a fluke, but most of them are small. Look for a mayfly hatch on bank bushes. Try throwing a Pop-R in bream colors or a Trick Worm, finesse worm or fluke. There’s always a chance at some shallow action on Bartletts on blowdowns and overhanging trees. A fluke or a Texas-rigged creature bait like a Sweet Beaver might draw strikes. Another option for smaller bass is fishing the bridge pilings at Halawaka Creek. Try a green-pumpkin or watermelon finesse worm fished about 15 feet down on the pilings. The deep-water bite on Bartletts has been slow. If you know the upriver section, head up to the shoals and fish buzzbaits and flukes, and if that bite is slow, fish a crawfish-colored jig.
