Blackshear Hosts Youth Bass Championship

The Georgia Bass Chapter Federation (GBCF) Youth Division held their 2015 Junior State Championship Tournament at Lake Blackshear on March 14, 2015.

Under the TBF/FLW program, the best young anglers from junior bass clubs in Georgia competed for bragging rights and the opportunity to represent Georgia at the Nationals.
 
Three youth clubs sent their top anglers (ages 11-15) to compete for both individual and team honors. They were paired with GBCF members who provided boats for the event, and a good time was had by all. The young anglers enjoyed a beautiful day on the lake and at the weigh-in at Veteran’s State Park.
 
Mason Peace, a member of the Clarks Hill Youth Fishing Team, won the event with three fish that weighed 6.07 pounds.
 
Hunter Harpskite, also from Clarks Hill Youth Fishing Team, took big fish honors for the tournament with a 6.07-lb. lunker. He only had the one big fish, which is why Mason was crowned as winner of the tournament with his three fish.
 
Top-team honors for the year went to the Clarks Hill Youth Fishing Team with a combined weight of 21.65 lbs.
 
Mason will represent Georgia at the 2015 National Guard Junior World Championship, which takes place August 20-22, 2015 in Arkansas. As always, the Junior World Championship will be held in conjunction with one of the most prestigious events in fishing, the Forrest Wood Cup.
