Lake Allatoona Fishing Report – November 2020
GON Staff | October 29, 2020
Allatoona: Level: 3.8 feet below full. Temp: Mid 60s. Clarity: Stained to clear depending on part of the lake.
Bass: Tournament angler Matt Driver reports, “As the lake continues to fall and rise due to the winter drawdown and tons of rain from the past several tropical storms, hopefully the month of November will bring more consistent water level and cooler weather. Typically in the month of November, we will see those temperatures drop into the high 50s and even into the lower 50s by the end of the month. The lower temperatures tend to bring out the bigger spotted bass and make them more predictable. The month of November begins one of my favorite times of year as the jerkbait bite fires up. This time of year, I tend to stay shallow but will go deeper as the month goes on and even into December. While water temperatures are still in the 60s and fall into the 50s, you can be really aggressive with this technique. Use a 7-foot medium-action Shimano Expride rod with 8-lb. Sunline Sniper fluorocarbon. The lighter line allows more action and also gets the bait to its max depth. I like to target points and creeks this time of year. I don’t tend to fish the very backs and only concentrate on the front quarter of the creeks. The month of November, I also love to throw a white Mini Me spinnerbait with white blades on windy days. I typically just run points with this technique. This is a great way to catch quality spotted bass. Later in the month, I will continue to use these techniques but will start to rely more on the jig than I did at the first of the month. I like to throw a Little Spotty jig by Picasso. For me with a jig, slower is always better. A good consistent location to throw a jig toward the end of the month is on bluff walls. This technique typically holds throughout the winter. Enjoy the month of November while most people are in the woods hunting. Be safe, and wear your ignition shut off device and life jacket at all times.”
Linesides: Guide Robert Eidson, of First Bite Guide Service, reports, “The bite is decent. The bad news is the lake is turning over, and the fish are scattered from one end of the lake to the other. The good news is they are starting to eat again. Live bait and trolling are both working well, but the spoon bite is by far the better bite right now. Almost all the flats are holding good schools at sunup, and then again at sundown. Our better bite has been mid lake. Once the lake completely turns over, the topwater bite should turn on. I think we are about two weeks from an incredible fall.”
