Lake Sinclair Fishing Report – June 2020

Sinclair: Level: 1.1 feet low. Temp: Low 70s in the morning, high 70s in the afternoon. Clarity: Lake is stained up the rivers and up the Oconee River above Rooty Creek. South end is fairly clear and continuing to clear.

Bass: Tournament angler Karl Pingry reports, “There is still a shad spawn, according to Ed at Lakeside Chevron. The shad spawn will slow but last another two weeks. Spinnerbaits in chartreuse and white, buzzbaits and frogs are working in the morning. As that slows, throw a Little Earl crankbait in pearl and chartreuse that dives 4 to 6 feet, and work the docks with junebug-red lizards and Trick Worms. A ChatterBait with a merthiolate Trick Worm trailer is still a hot bait that fisherman are ripping over the grass. June should see the bite stay shallow for most of the month. Look for the mayfly hatches to really get going this month. Topwater, prop baits and frogs will all work. The next full moon should see a bluegill spawn. Use topwater early, then a shaky head or creature bait in green pumpkin with chartreuse ends. Late June should have a group of bass migrate out to the ends of the points and creek channels in 8 to 15 feet of water. Be prepared for a lot of boat traffic by midday.”

Crappie: Allan Brown reports, “Crappie fishing is still good under docks in and around deep water. I have had good catches up the river near channel ledges and drop-offs. Brushpiles are getting good. The minnow rig with a sinker dropped into brush is the ticket. Jigs tipped with a minnow is good once you find the correct color. Once hotter weather gets in full swing, nighttime dock lights will be the preferred method. Pitch 1/32-oz. jigs around lighted docks. Bright colors work well, as do darker colors.”
