Lake Sinclair Fishing Report – March 2020

Sinclair: Level: 0.4 feet low. Temp: According to Ed at Lakeside Chevron, the pockets were 55 to 57 degrees yesterday. Cooler temps upriver. Clarity: The whole lake is stained to muddy.

Bass: Tournament angler Karl Pingry reports, “There is a strong dock pattern right now. Jigs accounted for first and second place in the last Berry’s tournament, and Ol’ Monster worms in dark colors are also working well. Spinnerbaits with turtleback blades and Rat-L-Traps along the grass are the other strong patterns working right now. Please note: the best fishing is occurring near the backs of the pockets. Don’t be misled. There were more than 100 boats in the Berry’s tournament and just under half filled out a limit. So if you get bit in a cove, really work the back of that pocket. Not every location is holding fish. With all the rain, it has been hard to predict the fishing. With the right weather to keep the water temperatures in the mid-50s, look for the bass to try to spawn on the next full moon. The rain and extreme warm and cold fronts are making this spring difficult to predict. Check in with Ed for the latest fishing updates, lures and SugarBug crappie jigs.”

Crappie: Allan Brown reports, “There’s not much going on due to the weather and an abundance of rain. When the water settles down, all the major creeks should be productive while trolling jigs. Docks will be holding slabs, too. From the middle to the end of March, the fish will be shallow and beginning the spawning cycle.”
