Carters Lake Fishing Report April 2014

GON Staff | March 28, 2014

Carters: Level: 1.0 feet above full pool. Temp: 53 degrees. Clarity: Clear.

Bass: Guide Louie Bartenfield reports, “There are lots of fish moving shallow to spawn. Spotsticker jig heads tipped with Big Bite Shaking Squirrels in green pumpkin will catch fish, as well as Strike King KVD jerkbaits fished along clay banks back in the major creek arms. Cover water to find the fish, and then slow down with the Spotsticker, and work the areas over good. April is possibly the best time of year to catch lots of numbers.”

Striper: Louie reports, “Look for lots of stripers to be caught up the river in April. Freelines and boards will be working throughout the month. Focus on pulling your baits over 8 to 12 feet of water across points and flat banks. Any lively shad or herring will get bit. One of my favorite things to do in April is cast topwater baits for stripers. A Strike King Sexy Dawg is a great choice this time of year. My best colors are typically sexy blueback and chartreuse shad. Keep your eyes open for boils or gull’s diving.”
