Clarks Hill Lake Fishing Report February 2017
GON Staff | February 1, 2017
Clarks Hill: Level: 9.3 feet below full pool. Temp: Low 50s. Clarity: Slightly stained.
Linesides: Guide William Sasser reports, “This winter the hybrid and striper bite has been as aggressive as a spring bite with them feeding and gorging themselves. We have maintained a great downline bite throughout the winter, and there’s also been a steady and productive planer-board bite. The fish are holding along the edges of ditches in creeks and are in really good groups shortly after daybreak. Then later in the morning they are scattering out in the same general areas. Right now they are holding in 20 to 35 feet of water, but as they get closer to spawning, they will begin to move shallower. Once they move shallower is when planer boards and freelines really take over.”
Crappie: Guide William Sasser reports, “The crappie are holding around tree tops 15 to 20 feet deep. You can catch them by both trolling and anchoring—both are producing slabs. This month the crappie will begin to move closer to the banks, and this is when trolling jigs really kicks into high gear. These warmer temperatures have made for a very enjoyable winter of fishing with some very nice boxes of crappie caught.”
