Lake Weiss Fishing Report – October 2019

GON Staff | September 24, 2019

Weiss: Level: 1.2 feet below full pool. Temp: 84-87 degrees. Clarity: Light stain.

Bass: Guide and tournament angler Mike Carter reports, “Weiss has started to show some early promising action, even though the hot weather has put it a little behind compared to past years. The lake levels have started dropping, and the Echo Squarebill crankbait action is just around the corner. The Echo has already started producing, but when the cooler temps arrive this action will increase immensely. Looking for rocky, stump-filled points around the main lake areas can be great for some Coosa River spotted bass action. It’s always important on Weiss this time of year and through the winter months to keep a close eye on your electronics with the water levels dropping and the hazards are more evident. Fall is approaching, so get out and enjoy some great fishing.”

Guide Mark Collins reports, “Bass fishing is fair, and most fish are on a deeper, summer pattern on roadbeds, main-lake points and creek and river channel ledges. Crankbaits and spinnerbaits are catching fish. With the latest heat wave, the water has heated back up, and the fishing has got a lot tougher. A good cooling trend in September should trigger some better fishing. Any time they are generating power, the point at the mouth of the canal is producing some good fishing.”

Crappie: Guide Mark Collins reports, “Crappie fishing is fair. Most fish are out deep, showing up on deeper brush. Spider rigging with minnow is producing some fish, as is night fishing under lights.”
