Clarks Hill Fishing Report April 2013

Clarks Hill: Level: 7.2 feet below full pool. Temp: 53 degrees. Clarity: Clear in the middle but stained in the backs of the creeks.

Linesides: Capt. William Sasser reports, “The fish in the beginning of April are scattered with most of them heading to the lower part of the lake. This is the best time of the year to fish from the bank for any species. Cut herring fished on the bottom on points is great. Cable fishing in front of the dam with live herring is, too. The herring spawn this year might happen later in April, but the weather will have to warm up quick or it will happen in May. We are catching some nice stripers on planer boards with herring in the backs of creeks fishing 25 feet deep with the bait. Later in the month, the fish will be shallower on points.

Crappie: William reports, “This is the month to fish the bank for spawning crappie. We fish a lot of Crappie Country jigs under corks 3 feet deep retrieving slow. Soap Creek and Raysville areas are two great places to start. We will fish brushpiles in 10 to 15 feet of water in the backs of creeks with minnows or jigs. Dock fishing this month is always great, with jigs being my favorite way.”
