Lake Sinclair Fishing Report – August 2019

Sinclair: Level: 1.3 feet low. Temp: 85-89 degrees on the main lake. It’s a little cooler up Little River or Murder Creek. Clarity: The main lake is clear with some stain in the rivers from afternoon showers.

Bass: Tournament angler Karl Pingry reports, “In the morning, fish seawalls and rip-rap with topwaters, crankbaits, or spinnerbaits right on the bank. As the sun comes up, stay in the shade and stay tight to the walls and rip-rap, but fish your baits out to 2 to 4 feet deep to make sure the bass haven’t moved out a little. Your other option is trying the grass with a topwater frog or swim jig early. If fishing with a buddy, one great combination is a frog/toad worked first with a guy in the back pitching an Ol’ Monster worm or Trick Worm in the holes and edges. After you lose the shade lines, fish the docks with a jig, Ol’ Monster worm or a 6-inch worm.  Keep all three on the deck until the fish tell you what they want that day. Carolina rigging main-like points will catch a few fish, as well. Take the time to look with your electronics first to mark the fish and the depth they are holding. Use green-pumpkin or watermelon-candy Trick Worms in the clear water. I like junebug red and black Trick Worms in the stained water. The boat traffic on the lake should subside with the schools starting up in the first two weeks of August. Going during the week will spoil you!”

Crappie: Allan Brown reports, “Crappie fishing is best at night. Dock lights around deep water are good. Fishing brushpiles with lights produce, as well. Drop minnow rigs down at different depths until you find the optimum range. A few fish can be caught early in the morning shooting docks near deep water.”
