Lake Weiss Fishing Report – May 2019

GON Staff | April 30, 2019

Weiss: Level: 0.2 feet below full pool. Temp: 68-70 degrees. Clarity: Stained.

Bass: Guide and tournament pro Mike Carter reports, “Weiss Lake has been extremely up and down recently with constant changing of weather and water conditions, and with this it’s created some difficult and inconsistent bass fishing during a time when this lake is usually producing some quality fishing action. The upside of all of this is that it’s the time of year that the fishing will be more consistent as they start moving off of their spawning cycle to the grassbeds and any type of structure including laydowns, docks and rip-rap areas to feed back up to increase their body weights. This lake can produce some fantastic action during this time, and there’s just nothing like having a big Weiss Lake hawg explode on a Snagproof Frog around these areas. A Snagproof Frog is often overlooked on this lake, but it’s phenomenal what this bait can do during this time. If froggin’ is not your thing, then covering the grassbeds and other types of structure with Choo Choo Lures Swimjigs and Shakers will produce some great and very consistent action. Weiss Lake can be a blast during this time of year, so get out and enjoy it while it’s here. Have some fun!”

Crappie: Guide Mark Collins reports, “Crappie fishing is fair. Most fish have spawned and moving back out deep. Some are still being caught longline trolling in most all of the bays and creeks in 3 to 5 feet of water. Jiffy Jigs in colors JJ13 and JJ17 and Marks Special Blue are catching fish. Shooting docks is producing some fish, also.”
