2012 Gator Season Yields Some Big Ol’ Beasts

This 13-foot, 5-inch Eufaula monster was estimated at heavier than 600 pounds. It was killed after a 3 1/2-hour fight Sept. 4 by tag holder John Thomas, of Leesburg, and his father Greg, of Sharpsburg, (from left). They hunted with gator guide Chris Blackmon, of Griffin.

Mossyback is an appropriate name for this 12-foot, 2-inch, 450-lb. Lake Seminole alligator taken Sept. 3. Andy Thompson (pictured) and his son Andy Jr. killed it less than 100 yards from the spot where they killed a 13-footer four years ago.

A week later, Nate (center) guided for Mark Roberts, of Iowa, and Danny Roberts, of Chickamauga (from left). They killed an 11-foot, 11-incher in Calhoun County.

Nate Dallas had a busy gator season. On Sept. 8, Nate, Blake Cook and David Collins, all of Albany, killed this 12-foot, 850-pounder in a Calhoun County pond.

Ken Johnson, of Augusta, and Andy Moats, of Evans, (from left) hauled this 11-foot, 9-inch, 560-lb. alligator out of the Savannah River in Richmond County on Sept. 12.

Joey Tinsley, Corey New, Tyler Garrard (from left) and Trae Renfroe (not pictured), the guys from the Internet TV show “Combat in the Wild,” hooked into this 11-foot, 5-inch beast Sept. 1. They were hunting a slough on private property in Wilkinson County near the Oconee River.

First-time gator hunters Cody Weaver, 17, of Pavo (right), and his dad, Jamie, killed this Flint River alligator on Sept. 2. It measured 9-feet, 8-inches.
