Lake Weiss Fishing Report June 2018

Weiss: Level: 0.2 feet below full pool. Temp: Mid to upper 70s. Clarity: Stained.

Bass: Guide and tournament pro Mike Carter reports, “Weiss Lake has kicked into gear with its postspawn summer patterns. This is the time when searching out the deeper areas with a lot of rocks or other types of deep structure can make for a productive fishing trip on the lake. Deep crankbaits, Choo Choo Lures football jigs with Producer Craw trailers, and Carolina rigs are some great lures to use when covering these deeper areas. If the deeper patterns are not producing well, covering a good number of docks with small shaky-head worms can be the ticket for some consistent action. The early morning and late evenings can also produce some good bass by covering a lot of shaded seawalls that have deep water close by with lures such as Stutter Steps, Pop-Rs and small buzzbaits. This topwater action can be fast and just dang fun, especially when those big Coosa River spots annihilate your lure. It’s hot, so keep plenty of liquids on board to keep yourself hydrated during these hot days.” Guide Mark Collins reports, “Most bass have started moving to a deeper summer pattern. Docks and brushpiles in deeper water near spawning areas are producing fish. Points, roadbeds and creek channels are also producing fish.”

Crappie: Guide Mark Collins reports, “Crappie fishing is fair on Weiss right now. A lot of fish are starting to show up on deeper brushpiles and creek channels ledges. Spider rigging with live minnows is the way to catch these postspawn fish. Shooting docks is producing fish.”

Striper: Guide Mark Collins reports, “Striper fishing is fair. Some are showing up in the lower parts of the Coosa and Chattooga rivers after the run up the rivers.”
