Lake Weiss Fishing Report December 2016

GON Staff | November 22, 2016

Weiss: Level: 6.5 feet below full pool. Temp: Low 60s. Clarity: Clear.

Bass: Guide Mark Collins reports, “Most bass have moved shallow on secondary points, sandbars and humps. They are being caught on Rat-L-Traps, shallow-running flat-sided crankbaits, spinnerbaits and jigs. The spotted bass are biting great in the upper Coosa River near Riverside Camp Ground. The spots are chasing shad on the edges of the old river channel and at the mouths of any cove.”

Crappie: “The crappie fishing is great,” said guide Mark Collins. “Most fish are on the channel ledges of the main Coosa River, Little River and the Chattooga River. The crappie are in 12 to 16 feet of water on cover, and they can be caught spider-rigging with live minnows fished 2 to 4 feet above the bottom on a drop-shot rig. Some fish are still being caught under docks in the main lake. Try shooting jigs. A 1/24-oz. Jiffy Jig in colors JJ13 and JJ17 is working great.”
