Carters Lake Fishing Report October 2016

Carters: Level: 9 feet low. Temp: 79-81 degrees. Clarity: Clear.

Bass: Guide Louie Bartenfield reports, “The spotted bass have slowed down over the past week. They’re starting to make their fall movements regardless of weather or water temps still reaching the low 80s. I’m having my best luck using topwater walking baits and poppers running flat, shady areas. I’m still getting bit on drop shots and SpotSticker jig heads in 15 to 20 feet of water with an occasional big fish out in trees in 45 to 50 feet. With cooler weather approaching, look for more active schools of fish to start attacking bait on or near the surface. Fluke style baits and SpotSticker Underspins are good, along with the obvious topwater lures. Fall on highland reservoirs is all about timing, regardless if you’re fishing for spots or stripers. Have an open mind and patience, and you will eventually find what you’re after.”
