Lake Weiss Fishing Report April 2016

GON Staff | March 30, 2016

Weiss: Level: 1.6 feet below full pool. Temp: Low 60s. Clarity: Slight stain.

Bass: Good. The warm weather has moved everything ahead of schedule. Look for shallow largemouth from the mouths of pockets to the very backs. ChatterBaits are producing, as are small, shallow-running squarebill crankbaits and spinnerbaits. If the bite seems slow, fish a Texas-rigged lizard or a swim jig around shallow wood and grass that is starting to green. Docks are always good in April, too. Skip a shaky head under docks, concentrating on back posts.

Crappie: Good. Guide Mark Collins reports, “Crappie are being caught long-line trolling with Jiffy Jigs in colors JJ13, JJ17, JJ20, JJ24 in Little River, Little Spring Creek and the coves at Riverside Camp Ground. Yellow Creek is also producing some good fish, and Mud Creek is also producing good. Crappie are also being caught around deeper docks tight-lining jigs. With the warming trend look for the crappie to turn on in a lot more areas of the lake.” See the article on page 62 for more details on April crappie fishing at Weiss.
