GON’s 4th Annual Coyote Cull Results

The winner of the Beretta Tikka T3x Lite .243 rifle was Brandon Hutto, of Columbus, who entered with a Marion County coyote.

For four summers now, GON has organized a Coyote Cull effort to provide an incentive for hunters and trappers to get after coyotes during the time of year when fawns are dropping and hen turkeys are trying to nest and raise a brood of poults.

The Coyote Cull is not just about numbers, although this year we set a record with 129 entries. Our goal is to raise awareness about the damaging impact this non-native, invasive species is having.

We also want folks to realize that if you have a coyote problem, it’s up to you to do something about it. The Coyote Cull hopefully got some folks to their property to get after the yotes. We know that killing coyotes in May and June is tough, but if you can kill a coyote now, it can make a real difference in fawn and poult survival on your property.

For the Coyote Cull, we conducted a random drawing from among the 129 entries. Here are the 2017 Coyote hunters and trappers who won great prizes:

• Beretta Tikka T3x Lite .223 Bolt-Action Rifle: Brandon Hutto, of Columbus, won the new rifle. Thanks to Adventure Outdoors and Beretta, we gave away a Tikka T3x .223 bolt-action. The winner of the Trinity Custom Homes $500 prize was Roy Cadenhead, of LaGrange, who entered with a Troup County coyote.
