Lake Weiss Fishing Report November 2015

GON Staff | October 29, 2015

Weiss: Level: 2.2 feet below full pool. Temp: 67-70 degrees. Clarity: Clear.

Bass: Good. Guide Mark Collins reports, “Bass fishing is good with the cooling trend, and a lot of fish are being caught shallow in 3 to 6 feet of water. The shad are moving to the backs of the coves and creeks, and some good bass are starting to move to secondary points and shallow roadbeds. Bass are following the baitfish. Shallow-running crankbaits are working well, and Rat-L Traps and spinnerbaits are also producing some bass. The topwater bite is good early and late, also.”

Crappie: “Fishing is good, and they are being caught on structure on the river channel ledges in 12 to 18 feet of water,” said Mark. “Spider-rigging with live minnows over cover in 12 to 18 feet of water is producing some good fishing. I am starting to see a lot of quality 12- to 15-inch crappie. Look for the bite to get really good over the next week as the water temperature drops.”

Stripers: Fair. “Striped bass are being caught in the main lake on the old river channel ledges. They are also being caught in Little River and the lower Chattooga River. Anglers are using live shad downlined 8 to 12 feet deep and also on flatlines,” according to Mark.

Catfish. “The catfish are biting good on the deeper flats of the lake on cut bait,” Mark said.
