Lake Sinclair Fishing Report – May 2025
GON Staff | April 30, 2025
Sinclair: Level: 1.5 feet below 340. Temp: 76-77 degrees. Clarity: Muddy to stained until you get to the dam.
Bass: Karl Pingry reports, “Ed at Lakeside Chevron says recent weights at tournaments have been impressive—27, 22, 19 and 18 pounds winning these last couple of weeks. Ed thinks that most of the bass have spawned, but there will be a few more with the next full moon that will be deeper in the water column. The shad spawn is still ongoing with the biggest concentration up the Oconee. It will end soon with the warm temps and no rain the last week of April. However, the mayflies will continue to be emerging along the banks for the next several weeks. The shad spawn will be first thing in the morning. Target rocks, grass, dock pilings and seawalls where you see shad throwing themselves up on the banks. A spinnerbait is the author’s first choice in double willowleaf blades, as well as a shallow crankbait, a ChatterBait or fluke. If you find the mayfly hatch, try a prop bait, black buzzbait, frog in brown or bluegill, a swim jig or a shaky-head worm with a chartreuse tail. Ed says to concentrate on water color changes wherever you are fishing. A jig, monster worm or shaky-head Speed Worm under the docks or blowdowns are go-to baits. Ed said a 6-inch lizard is also a good choice. For cranking, try a red-craw Frittside crank, a Bandit 200 in chartreuse and white, a jointed Shad Rap in clown or a chrome and a blue Rat-L-Trap. In the muddy water, try a turtle-back-blade spinnerbait in either chartreuse and white or the new hot color of crawfish (red with black strands). Ed says the muddy water has the bass looking to feed. There’s a new shipment of Zoom plastics and helpful information at Lakeside Chevron. Hit the water before schools out and all the boaters hit the water!”
