Lake Burton Fishing Report – April 2025

GON Staff | March 26, 2025

Burton: Level: 1.8 feet below 1866.66. Temp: 53 degrees. Clarity: Clear.

Bass: Guide Wes Carlton reports, “The bass bite has been great the last few days. We have caught fish in almost every pocket/cove around the lake. A lot of the fish are spawning right now. We have had good success with a weighted Zoom Fluke (pearl or silver). Be sure to use lighter line or fluorocarbon when fishing shallow. Using 8-lb. test makes a difference. A Ned rig has also been working well with a green-pumpkin finesse worm. Fish any structure around these coves, and the fish will be there. This bite should continue for the next couple of weeks and continue to get better.”

Trout: Guide Wes Carlton reports, “We have been catching some nice brown trout the last couple of weeks. Trolling Rapala DT20s (big shad color) has been working best for us. Most of the better fish seem to be piled up three-quarters of the way back in the creeks over a 15- to 25-foot bottom. These fish are chasing the blueback herring around, so look for schooling action on top, as well. Have a small jerkbait or spinner ready to cast to them. Brown trout like a fast retrieve, so don’t be shy about reeling fast. This bite should continue to get better over the next few weeks. These fish will slowly move out to deeper waters as we near the latter part of April.”
