Lake Sinclair Fishing Report – March 2025
GON Staff | February 26, 2025
Sinclair: Level: 1.4 feet below 340. Temp: 55 to 60 degrees. Clarity: Clear water at the dam and stained to muddy as you head north of 441 bridge.
Bass: Karl Pingry reports, “The bass are in the pockets on secondary points right now. According to Ed at Lakeside Chevron, fish the docks with a blue-and-black jig, a shaky head with a Speed Worm or a monster worm in candy bug, redbug or plum apple. Another option near the docks and in between docks is the Winged Fluke in electric shad or junebug. For crankbaits, the Bandit 200 in red crawfish and chartreuse and white, or a Frittside in the same colors are hot right now. A chrome-and-blue Rat-L-Trap on rip-rap or the hydrilla is another option. The Winged Fluke and a chartreuse-and-white ChatterBait are good choices around the hydrilla. Finally, the turtleback bladed spinnerbait in the muddy water is hard to beat. Ed predicts the next full moon will have a big spawning event in the backs of the pockets. Look for light-colored circles in the shallow water. If it’s really stained or muddy and no visibility, Ed says you can’t beat a merthiolate Trick Worm. I like a light Carolina rig with a lizard or Trick Worm. The bass will tell you which one is better on a given day. Prior to that full moon, keep checking the secondary points going into the pockets. Topwater will also come into play. A slow-moving buzzbait or a Pop-R will be great choices. If you get a blow-up but not bit, have a Trick Worm, Senko or a shaky-head worm ready to throw into the blow-up. The bass may be guarding a nest. A lot of times you will not feel a bite, your line will just start to move off. Make sure to set the hook in the opposite direction than the line is moving to give yourself a better chance of a solid hook-up. Depending on the weather, the shad spawn may start by the end of March. Just watch for the shad throwing themselves up on the bank. Rocks, rip-rap, seawalls, dock and bridge pilings will be good places to look. Throw a white spinnerbait, topwater, ChatterBait or fluke shallow to get bit. Paralleling the bank in this situation will increase your lure’s time in the strikezone and increase your odds of getting a strike.Lakeside Chevron parking is still only $5 and Ed is happy to give you updated fishing reports when you stop in and show you his newest shipment of Zoom baits. Enjoy the best month of fishing with minimal boating traffic.”
