Hunt Story
We got in the blind around 6:45 a.m., legal shooting light was 6:55 a.m. I had pictures of a group of 5 bucks for the last few weeks still together. The buck she shot was the largest of the group and her biggest to date. I use binoculars to see better especially in low light. Around 7 a.m. I looked to the back right corner of the property we hunt on and saw a small buck heading our way. This whole hunt took place in about 5 minutes. I told Addy she could shoot what ever she wanted to. I told her the deer was working towards the feeder when I spotted the rest of the bucks coming in behind the smaller buck. The smaller buck made it to the feeder first. Her crossbow was already in the shooting rest aiming at the feeder and she was already looking at the smaller buck when I told her the 8-point was nearing the feeder. The other bucks being smaller were hanging back waiting their turn. I watch the 8-point in my binoculars when I told her to shoot him when she had a good shot. No sooner than that came out of my mouth she shot him. At the sound of the bolt hitting the deer and him leaping forward to run off the woods exploded with commotion when all the deer left out of there. I lost track of the 8-point she shot when he took off. He ran down off into the wood towards the creek and I heard him crash. We sat there till about 7:15 when I got out to go look for him. I found the bolt stuck right behind where he had been standing by the feeder covered in blood. I walked down into the woods and saw his white belly and went to check him out before I went back to get Addy. I came back to the blind and showed her a picture of a spike that was with him and told her she shot the wrong deer. She didn't find that to funny but I did. After that we went and got the four wheeler to go drag him to the house. Addy is a great kid and a good huntress. I am so proud of her for hunting hard as she does and the patients she has waiting for a bigger deer.
