Hunt Story
Dad and I headed out into the woods as soon as I got home from school. Shortly into the hunt we had a small 6-point come in and decided to pass on him in hopes that this buck would show up. We watched this buck for about a month prior to opening day. Not much longer after the 6-point left, the buck that we were after finally showed up. I waited 20 minutes for a good broadside shot and the moment that I had been waiting for was finally playing out and I went ahead and took my shot. About 30 yards later we could hear him crash. Dad and I decided to go back to the house and wait a while before we went looking for it. Upon looking for the buck we found where he crashed at but he wasn’t there. So we stayed on the blood trail and slowly started to close in on him but unfortunately we jumped him and watched him take off. From that point we decided to call the tracking off for the night and pick up on it as soon as sunrise and that’s what we did. We took our black lab with us and after a few hours we still were not able to retrieve the buck and decided to take our dog home and let her rest. We headed back out, this time we left our dog behind and decided to go back and give it another go. This time we stayed walking high on the edge of a hill and looking down at a creek bottom. Not much longer my little brother noticed the buck at the bottom near the creek and I was extremely happy and proud that we didn’t give up.
