Lake Sinclair Fishing Report – September 2024
GON Staff | August 28, 2024
Sinclair: Level: 1.8 feet below 340. Temp: 90-92 degrees. Clarity: The lake is clear on the south end, but there is a stain up the rivers and some color north of the railroad bridge.
Bass: Karl Pingry spoke with Ed at Lakeside Chevron who said the fish are still biting. It’s taking 15 pounds to win day tournaments and 18 to 19 pounds to win the night tournaments. Things have changed a little since Ed’s last report. There are mayfly hatches happening again. Frogs, prop baits and bluegill-imitating baits will be good choices if you happen upon a hatch. Second, at the mouths of some coves, there is schooling going on that is a mixed bag of largemouth and white bass. Ed says a white Rooster Tail will catch both species. There are a few patterns from last month still working. Flipping docks with an Ol’ Monster worm or a shaky head with a Magnum Shakey Head Worm is still hot. A new addition to that flipping is a ChatterBait. Ed says some anglers are pitching under docks and some are skipping it under and then retrieving it out. Target the darkest area of the dock, as well as where a grassline and dock pilings meet. A ChatterBait in the grass and along the grass edges is also still working. Finally, there are a few getting caught on a crankbait. Try the Little Earl, No. 7 Shad Rap (chartreuse and pearl) and a No. 6 Shad Rap in glass ghost. Ed did mention the areas that seem to be the most productive are up the Oconee River and up the Little River, mainly in the backs of the coves. September should keep these same patterns, with the mayfly hatches being the only question mark. If we get the remnants of a tropical storm or a hurricane that drops the water temps back into the low 80s, look for the topwater in the shallows to really get going. Ed said to try a buzzbait to cover water in either white or black. The fish will get really shallow with that drastic water temp change. Also target the backs of pockets with incoming water. At Sinclair, dirtier water is better. Also, stop to fish any distinct changes in water color (mudlines). Stop at Lakeside Chevron for boat parking and up-to-date lake information.”
