Lake Burton Fishing Report – May 2024

GON Staff | May 2, 2024

Burton: Level:  1.7 feet below 1866.66. Temp: 66 degrees. Clarity: Clear.

Bass: Guide Wes Carlton, with Georgia Lake Fishing guide service, reports, “Most of the bass have finished spawning. The bite has been great over the last few days. We have been catching a lot of fish on topwater frogs and Sammys in the morning in pockets off the main lake channel. In the middle of the day, the jerkbait bite has picked up in the creeks around brush and rock ledges. Most of the spotted bass and largemouth are hanging in the 6- to 15-foot water range. We have lots of herring starting to spawn on the seawalls. Look for these baitfish, and cast in and around them with your jerkbait. White, smaller jerkbaits have been working best. This bite should continue for the next several weeks as the water temps rise into the 70s.”

Trout: Guide Wes Carlton, with Georgia Lake Fishing guide service, reports, “The brown trout bite has been a little slow lately. We have caught few fish in the backs of the creeks very shallow. Small Rapala CountDowns have been working best. Use a fast retrieve when casting these baits. I have also caught a couple of bigger brown trout and a few rainbows on jerkbaits while bass fishing brushpiles. Look for this bite to continue to get better as we head into the first couple of weeks of May.”
