Hunt Story
My son Woodson and I have been practicing shooting his .223 for several weeks at Thomasville's new rifle range. He has been hunting with his older brother Briggs and I for three years, and we decided this season we would try and kill Woodson's first deer. We were hunting Sunday afternoon on a food plot next to a big bottom. Weather was perfect! It was cool and a light North wind which was ideal for the "Pigeon Barn stand." We saw a few small bucks early on and then around 5:15 this giant 9-point eased out. He stood in the back of the patch for 5 or 6 minutes which helped get Woodson's nerves under control. Finally he came into range. Woodson made a great heart shot with his .223. The buck ran about 40 yards and fell dead as a hammer. Woodson said it was the greatest day of his life!!
