Hunt Story

I had just arrived in Cordele, Ga after a morning hunt in Schley County. I decided to check my trail camera on our property before returning home. As I drove around the edge of the cotton field, I watched this buck along with three others jump up from their bed. The bucks were bedded next to a hot doe. They ran around 100 yards then bedded back down in a hardwood bottom in the middle of a clearcut. I continued on to check my camera then went home. I did not get a single picture of this buck all year. About an hour after sitting at home, I decided to return to the land to see if I could spot the group of bucks bedded up with the doe. As I scanned the clearcut, I noticed this buck was bedded with the doe all alone. I slowly slipped toward him hoping to get a clear shot as they were bedded down in a real thick patch of fallen trees and limbs. As I neared closer, the buck noticed me then stood up staring directly at me, but he would not leave the doe. I was able to prop my gun up and squeeze a shot off within a 40-yard range. I shot the buck in the neck, as that was my only opening to shoot through the brush. He fell where he stood.
