Hunt Story

My son, Whitley, was hunting for the first time this weekend. We were in a two-seater stand on a new field that we hand planted on a cleared out logging deck. Around 4:30 pm we had a small doe and a 6 pt enter the field and feed for a bit. About 10 minutes went by when this 8 pointer came into the field to check on the other buck and doe. All three fed for about 15 minutes together when a single half spike joined the party. We called him Uno. This seemed to spark a fighting mode as the 6 and 8 went after it, which I got on video. They left the field around 5:15, still a bit early so I wanted my son to wait a bit to see what else would come out. Around 5:45 the 8 pt appeared back into the picture. My son asked if he really had to make his first kill bigger than the family trophy wall. I really couldn't argue the point so I gave him the green light. He put a perfect shot down just behind the left shoulder, the deer lunged into the air and proceeded into the woods. Watching him through my scope, I knew he had a clean hit. we found the buck about 50 yards into the woods, down a hill, which made for a good pull back up into the field. Thanks Dad!
